In the late 80’s my husband brought home Mr. Iyengar’s classic book Light on Yoga, and we began our yogic journey more out of spiritual curiosity than as a physical pursuit. It was so difficult to try to read and practice I recorded myself reading the instructions so I could practice (remember cassette tapes?) Then my husband brought home a video: Ganga White and Tracey Rich teaching “The Flow Series.” We were hooked. It was a physically challenging practice, and it MOVED! It was ten years before I actually took a class, but I practiced daily. I stopped doing triathlons and weight training, and immersed myself in the art and science of yoga.

I completed my first Teacher Training with Ganga and Tracey at White Lotus in 1999 - one of the most transformational experiences in my life. It was a great honor for me to return to White Lotus three times to assist them in their teacher trainings.

Then, in 2001, I met an amazing woman who paints sky ceilings all over the world and I decided I wanted to teach yoga beneath one of those ceilings. I had been in the restaurant business for years, owned several Le Peep franchises, including the one at Denver West. I sold all my other restaurants, changed the Denver West Le Peep to Blue Sky Café and Juice Bar, and opened Blue Sky Yoga in 2003 in the same space.

I have studied with some of the world’s greatest yoga teachers; Erich Schiffman, Shiva Rea, Judith Lassiter, and most influentially Ganga and Tracey. I have always studied Vinyasa (or Flow Yoga) because I love the movement, fluidity, and meditative quality; but I have learned to balance those qualities with structure and alignment. I have experienced my share of injuries and physical challenges; they have been my greatest teachers and have made me a better teacher.

My personal practice is no longer focused on mastering advanced poses or even achieving a certain level of strength or flexibility; these days my practice and teaching are more about refining physical alignment and energy flow as well as observing the way my mind works (which is the meditative aspect of yoga.) On a spiritual level, it is about cultivating awareness and mindfulness, learning to live less in my thinking mind, and more in the present moment; to be AWAKE. Yoga is not the only way to do this, but it is a very good way.

I am fascinated and infatuated with the art of articulation. A big part of my job as a teacher is to be able to articulate movement; to turn movement into words, so that students can translate words into movement. I love teaching beginners and experienced students; mostly I enjoy teaching students with the patience and dedication to learn how this amazing practice of yoga can serve them in so many aspects of their lives.
